To use mobile AdSense pages or not…

Recently, building web pages for mobile phone access has dramatically increased, as the usage of mobile phones and browsing the net from mobile phones has increased just the same.

My thoughts on this as far as AdSense earnings are following.

When someone uses a cell phone to browse the net, I dont believe they have the same “dedication” or attention as someone using a home PC. Usually when someone uses the net on a mobile phone, they are doing so to find a specific thing, place or piece of information. If they happen to see ads, AdSense or otherwise, I believe they are very unlikely, compared to a standard web page, to click the ads.

Add to this the general high cost of browsing from a cell phone, the tiny screen, and the general time constraints of someone using a cell phone. Typically, they are doing other things at the same time.

For these reasons, I believe that most who use cell phones are there to get a specific thing accomplished, and are less likley to “browse”. And for these same reasons, I believe that any kind of general “ad serving” tactics will not display the same kind of results as a standard “home PC” type web page with ads.

This may however, serve a great purpose. While users may display less likeliness to click on general, or contextual ads, maybe they are more targeted towards specific ideas or tasks. Maybe this just means that a page optimized for mobile phone browsing should be all that much more targeted. Very targeted.

I have yet to test this theory, but I know if I browse the net from my phone, and am looking for sushi in Sacramento, I probably dont want to even see ads that mention just “sushi”. I want to see ads that mention “sushi in Sacramento” or “Best sushi house in Sacramento”. Very targeted. I think this is even more important with cell phone browsing.
